If you're new to the Victorian Club Permit Scheme, or you're weighing up a switch to Traf's Club, chances are you've got a handful of the same questions everyone asks before they sign up. Here are the ones we hear most, answered straight.
Do I have to attend club meetings to keep my permit?
No. Meetings are never compulsory at Traf's Club and they're not required to keep your permit valid. Traf's Club runs as a fully digital service, so everything from joining to renewing happens online, without needing to turn up anywhere in person. That said, we're not ruling meetings out forever, optional meets and car runs may be introduced down the track for members who want that side of car club life too.
How much does membership cost?
Traf's Club charges $5 for your first year of membership and $50 for annual renewal after that. That's the club membership fee itself, separate from the VicRoads permit fee.
Do I still need to keep a log book?
Yes, this one's a VicRoads requirement rather than a club one. Every club permit vehicle needs a VicRoads-issued log book, and you complete an entry every time you drive the vehicle more than 100 metres from its garage address. Only the first driver of the day needs to be recorded, so if two people drive the car on the same day you don't need a second entry.
What's the difference between a 45-day and a 90-day permit?
Both let you register a vehicle over 25 years old for a set number of driving days per year rather than full-time registration. The difference is simply how many days of use you get and what you pay for it.

Choose based on how often you actually expect to drive the car, since VicRoads ties the cost to the number of days on offer, not how many you end up using.
Do I have to stay a financial member to keep my permit valid?
Yes. Your club permit is only valid while you remain a current, financial member of an approved club. If your membership lapses, your permit becomes invalid too, so it's worth keeping renewals on your radar. If you're switching from another club to Traf's Club, VicRoads allows a gap of no more than 14 days between memberships, so timing your switch matters.
How do I get in touch if I have a question?

Can I switch to Traf's Club from my current club?
Yes. You'll need to keep the gap between your old club's membership ending and your Traf's Club membership starting to 14 days or less, so your permit stays continuously valid throughout the switch.
