There are two separate costs involved in getting a vehicle onto the VicRoads Club Permit Scheme: what VicRoads charges for the permit itself, and what your club charges for membership. This page breaks down both, plus what you'd typically pay elsewhere.
Become a MemberVicRoads fees
These fees go to VicRoads directly, every club permit holder in Victoria pays them regardless of which club they belong to.
| 45-day permit | 90-day permit | |
|---|---|---|
| TAC charge | $60.50 | $117.70 |
| Permit fee | $27.60 | $55.30 |
| Logbook | $3.40 | $3.40 |
| Total | $91.50 | $176.40 |
On top of the above, a one-off number plate fee applies when you first join the scheme, and you've got a choice of two styles. Here's an example of how each looks and what it costs:
Both are a one-off cost when you first join, not an annual fee. Slimline plates suit classic and historic vehicles, they're a bit more aesthetic and give an older-style look a lot of owners prefer, but either style is fully compliant.
What your club charges
This is the part that varies significantly. With Traf's Club:
That's the entire membership cost. No meeting levies, no administration fees, no charges for paperwork turnaround.
How that compares to a typical club
Most car clubs running the Club Permit Scheme charge somewhere between $100 and $150 or more just to join, before any annual renewal. Beyond the joining fee, the bigger cost for a lot of clubs isn't monetary, it's compulsory meetings: attending in person, often multiple times a year, to keep your permit valid.
| Traf's Club | Most other clubs | |
|---|---|---|
| First year membership | $5 | $100-$150+ |
| Annual renewal | $50 | $60-$100+ |
| Meetings required | Never compulsory | Often compulsory |
| Paperwork turnaround | 24 hours | Can take weeks |
Multiple vehicles
If you're putting more than one vehicle on Club Permit, each additional vehicle is $10 to join and $10 to renew, tracked against its own VicRoads permit date rather than bundled with your first vehicle's renewal.
Here's an example of how that plays out over time for two vehicles:
- September 2026 $5 to join with Vehicle 1
- March 2027 $10 to add Vehicle 2
- September 2027 $50 to renew Vehicle 1
- March 2028 $10 to renew Vehicle 2
Whether you're switching from another club or putting a vehicle onto Club Permit for the first time, the process starts the same way.
