Every logbook entry should count for something. If you're going to sign the book and take your historic vehicle out, it's worth making the drive itself part of the experience, not just a trip to the shops and back. Victoria's got no shortage of genuinely great driving roads, here are a few worth putting on the list.
The Great Ocean Road
The obvious one, but obvious for a reason. The stretch between Torquay and Apollo Bay winds along the coastline with sweeping corners and ocean views the whole way, and it's every bit as good from behind the wheel of a classic as it is in the brochures. Go early on a weekday if you can, it gets busy with tourist traffic later in the day.
The Black Spur
Running between Healesville and Narbethong, the Black Spur is a tree-lined mountain road that's become something of a rite of passage for Victorian drivers. Towering mountain ash forest on both sides, a genuinely technical run of corners, and it connects neatly into a longer loop through Marysville and Lake Mountain if you've got the day for it.
The Mornington Peninsula back roads
Skip the freeway and take the back roads through Red Hill and Arthurs Seat instead. Rolling vineyard country, a proper lookout at the top of Arthurs Seat, and plenty of good coffee stops along the way if you're making a morning of it with other club members.
Phillip Island's coast road
A loop around Phillip Island covers everything from open coastal straights to tighter corners around the back beaches, with the added bonus of finishing somewhere you can get a proper feed. A good option if you want a full day out without leaving the greater Melbourne area behind entirely.
The Grampians
A bit further out, but worth the trip if you've got a full day free. The roads winding through the Grampians offer some of the best mountain driving in the state, with the added scenery of the ranges themselves. Pair it with a stop in Halls Gap and you've got a solid weekend outing.
Make the days count
Whether you're on a 45 or 90-day permit, a good drive is exactly what the Club Permit Scheme is there for. If you haven't put your vehicle on Club Permit yet, or you're looking to switch to a club that makes the paperwork side painless, see how to get started with Traf's Club.
