Renewal due in the next 6 weeks? Even better. We'll issue your renewal sticker instead of a standard one, so the switch and your renewal happen in one go, and your membership covers you through to the next one. Priority and Express delivery are available if you need it sooner.
Getting your switch processed quickly
Switching clubs is a much shorter process than a new application. There is no roadworthy, no VicRoads counter visit, and you keep everything you already have. The only thing that holds a switch up is photos.
The five photos
You need at least five photos of the vehicle:
- Front
- Driver's side
- Rear
- Driving position, side on with the driver's door open
- Chassis, VIN or engine number, and the compliance plate

For a motorbike, trailer or anything unusual, it is front, both sides, rear, and the chassis or VIN or engine number with the compliance plate.
- Originals only. We need to see the file data, including when the photo was taken
- No more than seven days old at the time you submit
- No screenshots. A screenshot strips the data we need and cannot be accepted
You can submit the form now and send photos later if you are not near the vehicle. Nothing starts moving until they arrive, so the sooner the better. Upload straight from your camera roll, because sending them to yourself through a messaging app usually strips the file data.
No roadworthy needed
Your vehicle already has a roadworthy history from when it first went onto the scheme, so there is nothing to book and nothing to pay for. You are changing which club endorses the permit, not applying for a new one.
What happens depends on your renewal date
The form asks whether you are within six weeks of your permit expiring. That single answer changes how the switch is handled, and it is worth understanding before you fill it in.
More than six weeks from renewal
We process the club change with VicRoads on your behalf. Your new logbook sticker arrives in the mail within 1 to 2 weeks and that is the end of it. Nothing for you to do and nowhere for you to go.
Within six weeks of renewal
Better timing, because the switch and the renewal happen together. Instead of a standard sticker we issue your renewal logbook sticker, and your membership already covers you through to the next renewal.
You will get a pre-signed Traf's Club renewal letter in the mail, which you complete with VicRoads online. Still no counter visit. You choose how fast it reaches you:

You can also choose to take the paperwork to VicRoads yourself in person if you would rather handle it that way.
Either path works, so there is no need to time your switch around your renewal date. If you happen to be close to it, you simply get the two jobs done in one.
Prefer paper?
Everything is signed digitally as standard. If you would rather have physical forms posted to you instead, that option is on the form for $10, whichever path you are on.
What you keep
- Your plates. Same club permit plate number, same plates on the car
- Your permit number
- Your renewal date. Switching does not reset the clock or shorten your permit
Nothing about the vehicle's registration changes. The only difference is which club VicRoads has recorded against it.
What happens after you submit
- We check the photos and come back to you if anything is missing
- We prepare the Vehicle Eligibility and Standards Declaration and the club change paperwork
- We request your $5 membership payment
- Once paid, the documents come to you for digital signature
- We handle the rest with VicRoads, and your sticker or renewal letter arrives in the mail
