Getting your application through quickly
Two things hold applications up more than anything else. Get these right and yours moves straight through.
The five photos
You need at least five photos of the vehicle, and they have to be uploaded with the form:
- Front
- Driver's side
- Rear
- Driving position, side on with the driver's door open
- Chassis, VIN or engine number, and the compliance plate

For a motorbike, trailer or anything unusual, it is front, both sides, rear, and the chassis or VIN or engine number with the compliance plate.
- Originals only. We need to see the file data, including when the photo was taken
- No more than seven days old at the time you submit
- No screenshots. A screenshot strips the data we need and cannot be accepted
Upload straight from your camera roll. Sending photos to yourself through a messaging app first usually strips the file data, and then we have to ask you to take them again.
The roadworthy certificate
This comes first. You need a current roadworthy certificate before an application can be started, for any vehicle manufactured on or after 1 January 1949. Vehicles built before 1949 are exempt.
It must be dated within the last 30 days when you submit, so get it done once you are ready to apply rather than months ahead of time.
Switching from another club instead? You do not need one at all. Use the club change form.
Faster options
Standard processing gets your forms back within 24 hours and is included in the $5. If you are in a hurry:

VIP removes the only step you cannot do from home. Every club permit normally ends with your own trip to a VicRoads Customer Service Centre. With VIP we make that trip instead, anywhere in Victoria, and your plates and logbook arrive by express post.
What you will need in front of you
Name, date of birth, residential address, and your postal and garage address if they differ. Email, mobile and driver licence number. The garage address matters, because it is what the 100 metre logbook rule is measured from, so it needs to be where the vehicle actually lives.
For the vehicle: year, make and model, seating capacity, engine size and capacity, fuel type and transmission. All of it is either on the compliance plate or something you already know.
One decision to make: 45 or 90 days a year. Forty-five is roughly once a week. Ninety covers essentially every weekend day. Most people overestimate how much they will drive a car that is not their daily.
What happens after you submit
- We check the photos and the roadworthy, and come back to you if anything is missing
- We prepare the Club Permit Application and the Vehicle Eligibility and Standards Declaration that VicRoads requires alongside it
- We request your $5 membership payment
- Once paid, the forms come to you for digital signature
- You take the signed forms to VicRoads, or we go for you if you chose VIP
